One of Northampton's traffic cops ticketed a speeding motorist — and earned the driver a rocket from an NHS worker.

PC Dave Lee, of the Northamptonshire Police Safer Roads Team, spotted the blue Volkswagen Passat clocking 90mph in the wrong lane on the A45 Nene Valley Way heading from Riverside to the Barnes Meadow roundabout

And showing off a "l love the NHS, NHS staff are our heroes" sticker in his back window was not enough to get him off the hook.

PC Lee said: "This driver drove at 90mph whilst undertaking several vehicles in a dedicated lane to gain advantage over others.

"It's good that he loves the NHS but a shame he doesn’t care enough for them to drive more carefully."

PC Lee's tweet about the incident prompted a pointed response from one NHS worker from Northampton: "I’d rather not be his hero, thanks."

It was a busy day for the Safer Roads Team who also stopped a driver heading to McDonald's who turned out to be over the drug-drive limit.
