The boys were walking along Adnitt Road, Abington, Northampton, between 7am and 7.30am on Thursday, July 2, when they passed a man who was standing on his own at the junction with Bostock Avenue.

The man asked them for a cigarette and when they told him they did not smoke, he checked their pockets.

When they told him to leave them alone, the man punched one of the boys in the head before attacking the other. He then walked off towards Kettering Road without stealing anything.

The man was white, in his mid to late 20s, slim but with a toned build and had slicked back hair which was short at the sides.

He was tanned and had a tattoo on his right arm and possibly another on his neck. He spoke with a Northampton accent.
