They say India’s friends have been a ‘bedrock of support’ while people and businesses from Northampton helped publicise the initial search for India, and then respected the family’s privacy.

The statement, released through Northamptonshire Police, said: “We would like to thank a number of people and organisations for their help and support during what has been an extraordinarily traumatic experience.

“Firstly, we cannot thank Northamptonshire Police enough for the speed of response and for the professionalism shown by everyone at the force throughout the investigation, not least by how quickly India was found and the suspect arrested. The police’s guidance and support has been outstanding.

“India’s friends have also been a bedrock of support for us. India had a wide group of friends, both at work and in her leisure time, and everyone has gone out of their way to help us. Nothing has been too much trouble, and the strong feelings that India’s friends had for her have given us plenty of comfort and inner strength at this time.

“We would also like to thank Northampton’s community for their positive attitude and respect towards us. This has been a high-profile case, with coverage across the world, but our fellow townspeople have respected our privacy and given us the space to grieve as a family and with our friends. We cannot tell you how important this has been to us as a group, and cannot thank you enough.

“Northampton’s business community has also been very supportive, from publicising the initial search to the aftermath of her death.

“We are still only part-way through this process, and we are grateful that justice has been done.”
