The loud noise caused the horse to rear-up and throw the rider into a hedge, resulting in a deep cut to her leg and whiplash injuries.

The vehicle failed to stop and drove off at speed.

The car is described as a faded red VW Polo, possibly a Y registration, with a loud exhaust, tinted rear window and passenger windows. It had a yellow and green bumper sticker on the driver’s side and contained four white young men, aged in their late teens.

The incident took place at some point between 6.10pm and 6.20pm on Saturday, April 23.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may recognise the description of the car involved.
