A Daventry woman is trying to get to the bottom of how her family's beloved cat Tom was found dead with a cable tie around his neck this month.

Sarah Farrell was heartbroken on November 9 when a neighbour told her she had found their seven-year-old black cat sadly dead behind her wheelie bins in Tovey Drive, Southbrook.

But when Sarah and her two daughters went to go collect Tom, they were horrified to find a broken white cable tie around his neck.

Now, Sarah is asking for her community's help to get the bottom of what happened to Tom and if any other animals in Daventry could be in danger.

Sarah told the Chronicle & Echo: "I don't want anyone to suffer like we have. I won't rest until I've done everything I possibly can for our little boy.

"Our neighbour found him and covered him until we went over. I couldn't even bear to go look at him.

"I went over with my two daughters to see him. But when we pulled the cover off and saw this white cable around his neck.

"My daughter screamed. It was absolutely awful."

It isn't clear if the cable tie was damaged or had been cut, but it came away when Sarah's daughter pulled it.

Immediately after, Sarah called the RSPCA to report what had happened.

Sarah told the Chron the animal charity have since reportedly ruled that Tom did not die as a result of strangulation.

Now Sarah, is appealing for anyone who might have CCTV or information about what happened to Tom to get in touch.

Sarah said: "We've had him cremated. We gave him a good send off.

"I cannot explain how much pain my daughters are going through."

Anyone who thinks they have information about Tom's death can contact the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999 or by messaging the Chronicle & Echo.

An RSPCA spokesperson said: “This was obviously a very distressing and upsetting incident for Tom’s owners.

“A local vet who examined the body of Tom concluded that the cable tie did not cause the death of the pet. At this stage we don’t know what happened to the pet or indeed if someone put the cable on the cat’s body after he had died.

“We would like to hear from anyone who has any information about this incident - and if anyone has concerns about animal cruelty we would urge them to call us 0300 1234 999.”
