Police have launched an urgent appeal for witnesses after a canal boat owner was assaulted on Grand Union in Northamptonshire on Monday.

Two men described as being in their late teens boarded a narrow boat moored on the canal near Long Buckby and one attacked the owner.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "This incident happened between 10.30pm and 11.30pm on Monday April 27, on board a narrow boat near Bridge Ten on the Grand Union Canal in Long Buckby.

"Two men climbed on board the front of the narrow boat and when the owner of the boat challenged them, one of the offenders assaulted him.

"The offenders are described as white, in their late teens and were wearing tracksuits.

"if there is anyone with information or who may have seen this incident, please call us on 101 quoting reference number 20000217796."
