£50,000 worth of tyres stolen from lorry parked at Watford Gap

Around £50,000 worth of Goodyear and Dunlop car tyres were stolen from a lorry parked overnight at Watford Gap services on the M1.

The lorry that was parked on the northbound services had two small holes cut in the side curtain and the security tag cut on the rear doors, before the car tyres were stolen.

The driver of the lorry was asleep when the theft occurred at some point between 11pm on Monday, August 22 and 6am on Tuesday, August 23.

Officers are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed a large goods vehicle parked close to a lorry or people acting suspiciously overnight at the services, to contact the police.

Drivers are being urged to be vigilant and to contact police if they see anything suspicious while parked in the services or nearby laybys.

Officers are sharing information with neighbouring forces to help identify those responsible and alert drivers to be cautious.
