Cricketers raise cash

AN ALL-STAR cricket match in Brixworth raised the final bit of cash needed to buy a state-of-the art incubator, which will allow more of the county’s sickest babies to be treated locally.

The match last week featured ex-test stars Saqlian Mushtaq, Graeme Hick and Phil DeFreitas and raised around £15,000 for Northampton General Hospital.

Dr Nick Barnes, a consultant paediatrician on Gosset Ward Special Care Baby Unit, said the second incubator will be a real boost.

He said: “The wide range of high-specification equipment comes at a significant cost.

“Although our unit does receive NHS funding, in an age of ever-increasing technology and relative financial austerity, it has become difficult to meet all equipment costs.”
