Crematorium to open
Although it will not draw in the crowds, the new Rugby and Daventry Crematorium will be an important facility for families and others in a crucial time.
The crematorium will open its doors in April this year to serve the needs of people across Daventry district and Rugby borough.
It has been built by DDC and Rugby Borough Council off Ashlawn Road in Rugby overlooking the Rainsbrook Valley, following a study which identified a need for such a facility to cover both areas.
Cllr Chris Millar said: “This was a service that there was a clear need to deliver closer to Daventry than was previously available.
“Rather than working in isolation, we realised Rugby Borough Council was thinking about a similar plan. It made sense to work together on the project, which benefits residents across both areas.”
The two councils worked together, contributing from their own pool of knowledge. For DDC with its background in the town centre’s regeneration, that included strategic management and project development.
The new crematorium will not only offer a much needed service to local people and families, but it will also provided the council with an income for years to follow.
