Superfast broadband for the entire Daventry district moved a step closer when a request for funding for the initiative was backed by local councillors on Thursday, June 12.
Northamptonshire County Council (NCC), which is looking to roll out superfast broadband across the county, has asked Daventry District Council (DDC) for money towards the project.
The request was discussed by DDC’s strategy group at a meeting at the council’s offices.
Strategy group members said they support increasing fast broadband coverage to the whole district as a measure to help businesses work and residents access online services.
They backed contributing £200,000 to the project, on the condition it is matched 2:1 by the county council and the Government’s Broadband Delivery UK.
District councillors pointed out this would mean generating £600,000 of investment in the district’s communications for a spend of £200,000.
This is the second time that NCC has asked DDC for funding towards superfast broadband with the first request sent last year.
