The village has four planters from which several plants, mostly geraniums, have been stolen in recent weeks. One planter, located next to a village entrance sign, was taken off its stand and damaged.

Cllr Miriam Harris, of Kislingbury Parish Council, said: “It’s such a shame. I don’t understand why people have to do this kind of thing. It’s just stupid.

“We spend a lot of money on plants and I spend a lot of time tending to them and watering them.

“We want the village to look nice and I think our planters are outstanding compared to a lot of other villages.

“But we are not going to be defeated by these thieves and vandals. We are going to continue to try and make our village look beautiful.”

The parish council, which owns the planters, one of which is adopted, said it had reported the incidents to the police.

Cllr Harris added: “All the planters are by the roadside, and it would have taken two people to lift the one that was vandalised as they are really heavy. Someone must have seen something.”
