Council keep quiet on cuts

DECISIONS on how Daventry District Council (DDC) will find £1.5 million worth of extra savings will be made behind closed doors.

Despite Government announcements this week about the cuts to local authority funding, DDC has said the public will not be told which services are under threat until it is ready to rubber stamp its budget in February and March.

The council has already secretly earmarked areas where it can cut budgets and jobs – on Thursday, December 9 members of the public were asked to leave a debate looking at where savings can be made.

This compares to Northamptonshire County Council which on Tuesday produced a list of potential cuts, including job losses, in its draft budget and is now asking for people’s views before it makes a decision in March.
