A Daventry woman is having her hair shaved off in memory of her grandfather and to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Clare Sherwood is hosting the event at the Daventry UTC tonight, Friday April 24
The hair that is shaved off – measured at 22 inches long – will be donated to the Little Princesses Trust, which makes wigs for children with cancer.
She is doing it to remember her grandfather Reginald Roe and also in support of her aunt Janet Spary from Kettering.
Clare said: “My aunt has been diagnosed with cancer and my sister is getting married in June.
“My aunt and I are very close and she was worried about being bald in the photographs, so I said I would go bald as well.
“I said it as a joke but the more I thought about it, it was the right thing to do.
“I then went and told as many people as possible so that I could not back out of it!”
Claire added that she had lost five family members in the past 20 years to cancer. She has support from local businesses as well as the Daventry UTC and Newnham Primary School, schools attended by her children Thomas, 16, Caleb, 11 and Benjamin, five.
Clare added: “I have had so much support from a lot of local businesses who have helped to make this event.
“I couldn’t have done it without the people who have given their time and prizes for the raffle. I am hoping to raise £500 and I am confident that we can get there.”
The event will be held at the Daventry UTC from 5pm. There will be a number of stalls and attractions for younger guests.
