Church restoration loses out in tax changes

ST MARGARET’S Church in Crick is more than £13,000 out of pocket after a change in tax law.

The Friends of St Margaret’s Church successfully applied for £164,000 from English Heritage to restore and maintain its tower and windows, but have been charged VAT on work.

It was previously possible to claim back all the VAT, but so far it has received around £9,800 from a total of £21,282.

Group secretary Sue Milne said: “We’re very concerned as to where the extra money will now come from.”

The next event sees the church holding a Diamond Jubilee fundraiser on Monday, June 4 between 2pm and 5pm.
