Ceremony is a show of support for Armed Forces

Britain's servicemen and women were honoured during a special flag-raising ceremony in Daventry this week.

On Monday Daventry District Council (DDC) raised the flag for Armed Forces Day, which takes place on Saturday, June 25, and is an opportunity for the nation to show its support for the UK’s serving and retired military community.

Daventry district councillors and representatives from Daventry Town Council and the Royal British Legion were among those who attended the event at the civic offices in Lodge Road on Monday.

Ted Sharp, president of the Daventry District branch of the Royal British Legion and a Royal Marine D-Day veteran, said: “It’s great that we’re flying the flag for Armed Forces Day in Daventry.

“I think a national event like this helps the public recognise what has happened in our nation’s past and brings home to them the important role of our armed forces.

“We need to show our support, particularly to those injured in service and need help.”
