Case ongoing for officers

AN INVESTIGATION into the two most senior police officers in the county remains ongoing, an official has said.

The investigation is looking into the alleged withholding of evidence following the brutal murder of Kevin Nunes in Staffordshire, in September 2002, when Chief Constable Adrian Lee and Deputy Chief Constable Suzette Davenport were both at the force.

Five men had their convictions quashed in March after the manager of the sensitive policing unit of Staffordshire Police claimed there was “corruption, falsification and dishonesty” within the investigating team.

A High Court judgement, released in full last week, said: “It is to be hoped that the appropriate measures will be taken against those responsible for what appears to us to be a serious perversion of the course of justice.”
