Monsignor Father Sean Healy, the Roman Catholic Parish Priest of St Augustine’s Daventry, and Laura Malpas, of Canons Ashby House, welcomed some of the most senior members of the Catholic Church to Canons Ashby House on Tuesday, October 29.

The Papal Nuncio, Ambassador of the Pope to Great Britain, and His Excellency, Archbishop Antonio Mennini, visited National Trust’s Canons Ashby House and church.

The original Augustinian Canons of Canons Ashby built the priory and church over 900 years ago, and Archbishop Antonio Mennini was intrigued by how the Augustinian Priory later became a haven for puritan protestants and the home of the Dryden family. The Nuncio was visiting the Catholic Diocese of Northampton, staying in Northampton with Bishop Peter.

The Nuncio was delighted by his visit to the countryside and to the county’s rich heritage.
