Canal group pick up award for endeavour

A GROUP of volunteers have won an award for their work on maintaining a stretch of canal.

Members of The Whilton and Buckby Lock Association have been helping British Waterways maintain the set of locks on the Buckby lock flight since 1993.

And now the company has presented them with a volunteer recognition award in acknowledgment of their work.

Chris Burton, from Whilton and Buckby Locks Association, said: “Originally it was just a group of local residents who thought they could help with a little bit of tidying up and things like litter picks and raising money from people who go through the locks. Then last year we also started to do some painting and painted four out of the seven locks. It’s quite an achievement and we are very proud of it.”
