Calls made to stop new homes turning village into a town

PEOPLE in Long Buckby have started a campaign to prevent their village from ‘turning into a town.’

It has been launched after plans for 107 homes on Station Road were recommended for approval by planning officials at Daventry District Council (DDC)

A meeting of DDC’s planning committee will take place on Wednesday to determine the application.

An application for a 132 homes on the opposite side of the road has been turned down but will go to the planning inspectorate on appeal.

Villagers are encouraged to attend the meeting to show their anger over the plans as well as write to the council with their views.

Campaigner Liz Barnard added: “I think if both of these applications go through we will see Long Buckby change from a village into a small town. I think it is very worrying.

“The problem with both of these housing developments is the villagers already living here will get nothing. There is no room for extra patients at the doctor’s surgery or more school places.

“The planning committee had the common sense to turn down the last application and I hope common sense prevails again.”
