Small rise in jobseekers in the Daventry area

A TOTAL of 1,201 people are currently claiming jobseekers allowance in the Daventry constituency, a rise of 0.1 per cent compared to last year.

The Northamptonshire Chamber of Commerce is confident jobs will be created in the county over the next year despite the latest figures, released by the Department of Work and Pensions.

Paul Griffiths, chief executive of the Northants Chamber, said: “Whilst there has been a very slight increase in the number of people claiming in some areas of Northamptonshire, we are, on the whole, still below the regional and national averages of claimant numbers.

In South Northamptonshire there are 1,031 claimants. also a rise of 0.1 per cent.
