PEOPLE paying their council tax or other bills at Daventry District Council will face extra charges from Monday (September 19).
Settling bills using a credit card will now incur an extra 1.9 per cent charge.
The council says the fee is already charged to the authority for every credit card transaction.
In a drive to save money, DDC says it will start passing this extra charge onto customers.
Customers will be offered other payment methods, including debit cards which will not face this extra cost.
Ian Vincent, managing director at Daventry District Council, said: “This is part of our ongoing exercise to reduce costs and is expected to save the council approximately £15,000 a year.
“The surcharge brings DDC in line with many other neighbouring local authorities and central government bodies.”
