The ex-secretary of Daventry Working Men’s Club was handed a two-year prison sentence this morning after admitting to stealing hundreds of thousands of pounds from his employers.
John Buckley, 67, from Inlands Close in Daventry, pleaded guilty to theft having stolen £135,090 between January 1, 2010 and January 31 2012.
He appeared in Northampton Crown Court today (July 18) where judge Tayton said he would spend at least one year of his sentence behind bars.
Judge Tayton said: “This is a fall from grace. I have taken into account your good character, your remorse and your early plea and give you credit for this.
“But I feel the seriousness of the offence deserves a custodial sentence.”
