There was delight for youngsters at Daventry’s Phoenix Youth Centre when it scooped a top prize at Northamptonshire Youth Ambition Awards.

The centre, based in Ashby Road, won project for campaign of the year at the inaugural awards created by Northamptonshire County Council.

They were designed to celebrate the county’s young people and the things they are doing outside of school in their local community, home life and work life.

The award was given to the young people for their efforts in organising events for other young people at the centre.

Claire Griffin, the children, young people and families manager, said: “We were not expecting to get this award so it was all a bit of a shock, but a good shock.

“We have got a lot of young people here at the centre who are passionate about making a difference to their local community.

“We have had a lot of success in the past year, we won the Don Buckley Young Person of the Year award at the Daventry and District Housing Star Awards and an award from the Northamptonshire Association of Youth Clubs for positive participation.

“The young people here are fantastic and it has been a pleasure and a privilege to lead them.”
