Apprenticeships and jobs created by the growth and development of Daventry

The development and expansion of Daventry is delivering real work and training opportunities for young people says Daventry District Council.

National Apprenticeship Week is currently taking place from March 14 to 18, celebrating the positive impact that apprenticeships have on individuals, businesses and the wider economy.

In Daventry district, the council says a booming building construction industry is providing fresh opportunities for people to benefit from on-the-job training, learn new skills and gain employment.

Current construction projects locally include the Monksmoor Park development off Welton Lane, Daventry, where national housing developer Crest Nicholson has taken on five plumbing and carpentry apprentices and trainees at the site. The company also employs a further 11 tradesmen who all live in the district.

Bedford-based construction firm SDC is also set to take on apprentices and trainees during the construction of Northampton College’s new Daventry campus in Badby Road West, Daventry and developers Prologis have been providing training for young people at the Apex Park commercial development off Drayton Fields, Daventry.

Daventry District Council supports construction training and employment by working with partners including Construction Futures, to secure apprenticeships and training places at development projects.

The council has said it also wants to see raining and employment opportunities created as part of its planned development projects in Daventry town centre.

Councillor David James, economic, regeneration and employment portfolio holder at daventry district council, said: “Construction and building in the district is booming and there are real opportunities for people to train and work in that sector.

“We would urge young people to consider this as a career as the pipeline of development and infrastructure projects locally, regionally and nationally will be massive.

“Others sectors, including logistics, engineering, food and drink and cultural and creative industries, are also thriving in our district and as these continue to grow, so will the opportunities available.

“Apprenticeships are also a great route towards further and higher education and self-development, with opportunities to gain diplomas and degrees – a number of leading business entrepreneurs have achieved success in this way.”
