PARENTS have been left angry after schools across the Daventry area have been forced to close due to a strike by teachers today (Thursday).
The gates at 12 schools, more than one in four in the Daventry area, are locked after two teaching unions called action over controversial changes made to pensions.
The National Union of Teachers (NUT) and the Association of Teachers and Lecturers voted to strike after the government increased the retirement age and asked public sector workers to contribute more to their state pensions.
The Phoenix Centre in Ashby Road, is coming to the rescue of parents tomorrow when it opens its doors between 10am and 4pm.
The last-minute event has been organised to offer youngsters the chance to use the centre’s outdoor skate ramps free of charge while school is out.
