84 per cent of children placed in first choice secondary school in Northamptonshire

Northamptonshire County Council received more than 7,200 applications this year and the number who got their first choice has increased two per cent compared with last year.

The county council will post letters today telling parents which school they have been offered, while the 94 per cent of families who applied online can check their offer on the council’s website today.

Councillor Matthew Golby, county council cabinet member for learning, skills and education, said: “Our school admissions team works hard to ensure that children are allocated a place at one of their preferred schools and I’m delighted that an increasing number of families have been offered a place at their first choice school.

“Any families who are unhappy with the place they have been allocated can appeal through the independent appeals process.”

Only three per cent of families did not get a place at any of their three preferred secondary schools.
