IT WAS a first-class opening for family musical Scrooge starring Tommy Steele at Milton Keynes Theatre.

The show was jam-packed entertainment full of humour and the occasional tear jerker from the moment the curtain went up.

Tommy Steele played the miserly Scrooge very well but at the same time left you with glimpses of the loveable man he once was. He charmed the audience with those twinkling blue eyes of his and fine voice.

Cast members’ performances were flawless but it was Tiny Tim’s solo that brought a lump to my throat.

The show contained several special effects that left the audience wondering how on earth they were done and the set changes transformed effortlessly before your eyes.

If you want a heartwarming family night out that leaves you feeling ready for the festive season, Scrooge is the show to see.
