The tone for this film is set straight away in the title of this sequel.
Set 20 years after the original, Dumb and Dumber To sees Lloyd and Harry (played by Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels) going off to find the latter’s adopted daughter.
From the use of the word to rather than two in the sequel, you know that high brow witty intellectual comedy is not going to be found. It couldn’t have been broader if someone had shoved a custard pie in the face.
However there is still plenty of warmth in the relationship between Lloyd and Harry and lots to enjoy as they play jokes on each other and those surrounding themselves. Both their performances will make you nostalgic of the 1994 film.
The rest of the cast are there typically to play the straight guys to both Carrey and Daniels’s comedy capers. The plot is also fairly non-exsistent, mainly serving as a vehicle for the jokes, but in a comedy film as broad as this, it never feels like a problem.
It isn’t short of decent laughs but you feel that there could have been a few more to have reached the heights of the first film.
But overall, this is an enjoyable laugh and there will be far worse sequels and films made this year.
Dumb and Dumber To can be seen at Cineworld in Rugby.
