A GRAND launch night is planned for a new folk club on Tuesday.

The Admiral Nelson pub in Braunston will play host to the free Folk Club from 8pm.

The night kicks off with a performance from some of England’s top melodeon players under the title of The Big Squeeze.

The event also unveils the Banquet Of Boxes album, which features songs from a number of musicians who will be appearing on the night.

The folk club is the inspiration of villager Pete Lawrence who previously launched The Big Chill Festival in London. He said: “Since I moved to Braunston three years ago, I’ve been looking for opportunities to start a folk club, and I can’t think of a better place to do it than the Nelson.

“They have been really keen to work with me on this and we’re hoping to attract some top acts from the scene, as well as having some ‘sessions’ with local musicians to round off the night.”

Pete will also DJ on the night while morris dancers will perform outside the pub and join in the musical celebrations.

The next folk club is on Tuesday, June 28 and from September it will be held on the last Tuesday of every month. For more information, search for the folk club on Facebook or log onto
