A MAGICIAN and comedian will be taking on a different role in an adaptation of a Shakespearean classic.

Paul Daniels will be appearing in the Royal Spa Centre in Leamington Spa in Hamlet the comedy.

He will be appearing, via hologram, as the ghost of Hamlet’s father in the production by renowned touring theatre company, Oddsocks.

The magician, who has recently appeared in Strictly Come Dancing, said: “One of the best bits about my job is designing and working on special effects for theatre.

“When Oddsocks came up with this idea I jumped at the chance of not only being in Shakespeare, which is a first for me, but also being a special effect myself.

“I am really looking forward to being spooky.”

The production crew were delighted to sign him up.

Oddsocks, artistic director, Andy Barrow, said: “The role of the ghost in Hamlet is a key one and drives the production, so it was important to find a performer with warmth and status.

“Paul is a great choice because his image is of fun, warmth and magic.

“We were delighted that Paul accepted the challenge.”

The show will be performed between Thursday, January 13 and Saturday, January 15, at 7.30pm. A matinee will also take place on Saturday at 2.30pm.

Tickets, costing between £12 and £15, can be booked by calling the box office on 01926 334418.
