Actor and TV presenter Les Dennis features among an all- star cast in a murderous new show coming to Milton Keynes Theatre.
He appears alongside Waking the Dead’s Claire Goose and Coronation Street’s Gray O’Brien in A Perfect Murder, an adaptation of a Peter James novella.
Victor Smiley and his wife Joan have been married for a long time. But Victor secretly loathes Joan and is getting attention elsewhere. And Joan is bored stiff by Victor and his irritating ways.
The marriage has reached a crisis point and Victor decides there is only one way to get Joan out of his life forever . . . but he’s about to get a nasty surprise.
Les, playing the part of Victor, said: “I have read the book before, I picked it up in an airport and have always loved stories set around Brighton.
“I was a big fan and apparently Peter James had me in mind to play this chauvinistic, horrible man. Not quite sure what he was trying to say about me.
“It is very pressurising as well because he is a very popular author and we have been selling out at lots of the shows we have done.
“The reaction we have been getting from audiences have shown that either they have been roaring with laughter or gripped on the edge of their seat.
“I just hope that it doesn’t give the audience too many ideas about how to commit the perfect murder!
He is very complimentary about the cast which also includes Steven Miller who appeared in Casualty and Simona Armstrong, who appeared on the BBC’s How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria.
Les added: “In real life, no one would want to murder Claire Goose because she is absolutely lovely. But the character she plays is absolutely vile.
“But it is a perfect cast and they are all very good.”
He has performed many times at Milton Keynes Theatre, performing in the musicals of Hairspray, Legally Blonde and Eurobeat. However it was during the last show that disaster nearly came around.
Les said: “I was playing the host of the Eurovision Song Contest alongside Mel Giedroyc and in the field behind the theatre, the generator decided to pack in. We had no light or sound.
“Mel and I, as Sergei and Boyka, were forced to ad lib for 20 minutes to the audience.”
Les is also getting to fulfill one of his dreams. After appearing in A Perfect Murder. he will be taking to the cobbles to appear in Coronation Street.
He added: “It is one of my favourite shows, if not my favourite of all time.
“I have got a contract for six months and we will see how it goes.
“I have been very lucky in that I have had a variety of different roles.
“Even if I was to be in Coronation Street for a long time then I would have to do some theatre work because that really is my first love.”
A Perfect Murder runs from Monday, March 31 to Saturday, April 5 at Milton Keynes Theatre.
