Hallelujah '“ it's the Messiah

Daventry Choral Society is crossing the border from Northamptonshire to stage the concert in St Andrew’s church, where the society’s musical director, Dr Nicholas Scott-Burt, was organist and choirmaster for more than a decade.

Among the soloists are Richard Eteson, who sang with the Grammy-award-winning Swingle Singers from 2000 to 2010. He is joined by Rupert Reid, who sings with the Monteverdi Choir.

Judit Felszeghy, a student of the world-famous soprano Dame Emma Kirkby, will be the soprano soloist and former Royal Opera House chorus member Catherine Griffiths completes the solo quartet. The singers will be accompanied by one of the country’s finest period-instrument orchestras, the Musical and Amicable Society.

Choral society chairman Martin Heath said: “We performed the Messiah to a packed church in Daventry in December, and we’re very excited about the opportunity to bring Handel’s masterpiece to Rugby. Even the best-known sections of the work, like the Hallelujah Chorus, are much more colourful with Baroque instruments, and we’ll also performing movements that people don’t often get a chance to hear”.
