Visitors got to enjoy admiring over 500 animals from 125 different species after the zoo opened its gates for the first time in months

Twycross Zoo in Leicester opened its gates for outdoor visits today - after numerous closures due to the coronavirus pandemic - and the zoo's liveliest inhabitants were just as excited as the visitors to see new faces!

Chief operating officer at Twycross Zoo, Karen Clarke said: "We’re absolutely delighted to welcome visitors back to the Zoo. It’s been an incredibly challenging period but we’re so happy to see guests on site and interacting with our incredible animals.

“Despite many lockdowns, life at the Zoo has continued behind-the-scenes. Our vital conservation work has also continued around-the-clock and that’s why the ongoing support of the public is so important - to help us continue this crucial work and safeguard the Zoo’s future, and that of the animals we care for.”

Twycross Zoo is working at the forefront of conservation and making a global impact for endangered species around the world, from the very heart of the UK. Visitors can discover more than 500 animals from 125 different species across its 100-acre site - including bonobos, chimpanzees and meerkats!

The zoo is open every day until 6pm and tickets are available to book online at www.twycrosszoo.org.
