Emotional evening for all on the stage

To Sir, With Love at the Royal and Derngate, Northampton.

BASED on a true story, To Sir, With Love, sees black teacher Ricky Braithwaite beginning his job at a rough London school but who warms to his pupils after a troublesome start.

It starts with unruly kids despite the best efforts by the teaching staff but once things have settled down, there is a real warmth between Mr Braithwaite and his pupils.

This makes the racist incidents that occur all the more difficult to deal with it.

There is an outstanding performance from actor Ansu Kabia playing Ricky.

The show received a standing ovation, inspired in part by the appearance of the real 101-year0old ER Braithwaite who got up on stage having flown over from New York especially for the show.

If there was a still dry eye in the house by the end of the show, there certainly wasn’t one by the time everyone left. Simply a superb show.
