Dead certain to be a thriller

The amateur group is staging the gripping Dead Certain at the Henry Street venue, and the play marks a main stage debut for fledgling director, Simon Milligan.

“I was looking for a great play with a small cast and knew after just a few pages that this was the one for me,” said Simon, who was in charge of the theatre’s acclaimed outdoor event, The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, during last summer’s Festival of Culture.

“It’s a real piece of work, and so is its leading lady, and I was fascinated with the play and with her.

“It’s a brilliant play, and I have a stellar cast, so I’m really hoping we have a great week.”

The production stars Cheryl Ryan as the wheelchair-bound former ballerina Elizabeth, who recruits out-of-work actor Michael, played by Nathan Dowling, to help her run through a script she is writing.

But Michael soon realises things are not altogether what they seem, and suspects that Elizabeth may have an ulterior motive.

“The play has had me on the edge of my seat throughout rehearsals,” said Simon, “and I know exactly what 
happens.

“I’m so pleased with how things have gone with my first shot at directing.

“Everyone at the theatre have been really supportive, and although it’s been a real challenge, I’ve had a fantastic time.

“I hope thriller fans will come along and enjoy it as much as we’ve enjoyed bringing it to the stage.”

The show opens on Saturday, February 6, for a seven-night run, closing on Saturday, February 13. It is performed every day except Sunday.
