Finding a suitable script for a play or pantomime is often the first task of local amateur drama groups.
But Eydon Players have taken a different route and the play which they will perform at the South Northants Drama Festival on September 13 and September 14 at 7.30pm in Lois Weedon Village Hall has developed from improvisation sessions that they held earlier in the year.
Director Mick Hawes says, “I am puzzled as to why am dram groups so often go for the stuff that has been done so well professionally. Why try to re-do Allo, Allo!, Dad’s Army or even an iconic television play like Abigail’s Party?”
A drama festival gives groups an opportunity to do something different.
Matron Don’t Allow references popular culture of the 1950s and the Northampton boot and shoe industry.
The improvisation sessions started with a situation where a daughter had to persuade her aging mother she was no longer able to look after herself. The play opens as they arrive at the care home for the mother’s trial stay.
Performances are at 7.30pm, and tickets are £6 from 01327 860039 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
