There are 17 Covid-19 vaccination sites up and running in Northamptonshire — with more to follow.

Primary Care teams are currently vaccinating the over-80s, care home workers and their own staff assessed as being at highest risk.

County NHS chiefs revealed last week that 25,000 people have already had at least one dose of the vaccine working towards of a Government's target of delivering 135,000 jabs in the top four categories by mid-February.

Health chiefs have declined to confirm how many have had the vital second dose, however, following a change in policy which meant thousands had their 'booster' appointments delayed by up to eight weeks to allow more people to get the first dose.

More GP surgeries will be included in the roll-out with plans for a mass vaccination centre in Northamptonshire "80 per cent" ready — provided the county can secure enough of vaccine doses to operate it.

Nurses at Northampton General Hospital issued the first jabs in the county on December 8.

Health bosses have urged the public not to attend vaccination centres without a booking and should not phone their GP to book a vaccine.
