Seven victims in three days as NHS announces latest deaths at Northampton General Hospital of patients testing positive for Covid-19

County's two NHS Trusts see 15 per cent of all deaths in England listed in daily bulletin

NHS figures today revealed a rise in the number of Covid-19 victims in Northamptonshire this week.

The latest information on deaths in hospitals showed seven more deaths being reported at Northampton General Hospital since the weekend — the highest figure of any English NHS Trust.

Three of the deaths at NGH were recorded yesterday (June 10), three more on Tuesday and one on Monday. These were added to the overall total when the latest data was collated at 5pm last night.

A further six coronavirus-related deaths were confirmed today at Kettering General Hospital making a total of 13 in the county. Over the three-day period, the two Northamptonshire hospital trusts accounted for 15 per cent of the overall English total of 83 announced by the NHS.

Across the whole of the UK, the total number of Covid-19 associated deaths in all settings was 151. That takes the national total to 41,279.

The number of deaths at the two Northamptonshire hospitals is lower than the peak of 11 deaths on April 23. On May 29, the government announced 10 deaths spread over four days.

Front line staff in the county have now seen 463 patients did after testing positive for the Covid-19 bug. Of those, 259 have been in Northampton and 203 in Kettering.

The total of known victims in Northamptonshire now stands at 587, including 124 coronavirus-related deaths recorded by the Care Quality Commission in county care homes up to last Friday (June 5).

Eight more patients have died under the care of Northamptonshire Health Foundation Trust which provides mental health, community nursing, sexual health and physiotherapy services within the county and also at prisons elsewhere. No locations have been confirmed for any of these deaths so they are not be included in these county totals.

The latest figures came after an investigation by the data team at JPIMedia showed that the number of new Covid-19 cases had fallen by around 40 per cent in Northampton over the last fortnight.

The Government uses the rate of infection to determine the 'R' number it uses to determine how quickly it can safely ease lockdown restrictions.

Labs have now returned 1,594 positive coronavirus tests in Northamptonshire according to the latest figures collated at 9am today (Thursday), a rise of eight in the previous 24 hours and 42 in the last seven days.
