More than 600 Covid-19 victims are now known to have died in Northamptonshire's hospitals and care homes

More than 600 Covid-19 patients are now known to have died in just 91 days in Northamptonshire's two main hospitals and in the county's care homes.

The NHS daily bulletin issued at 2pm today (Tuesday) revealed two more patients died after testing positive for the deadly bug at Northampton General Hospital, taking the grim total there to 272.

One more victim was confirmed at Kettering General Hospital as the total there reached 207 when the latest sobering data was collated at 5pm last night.

And the Office for National Statistics today revealed three new coronavirus-related deaths have been identified by the Care Quality Commission, making the total 127 in Northamptonshire's care homes.

The two latest victims recorded at NGH were on Sunday and last Friday. That takes the grim total to 17 in the week-ending June 12 — that represents a rise of five on the previous seven-day period and equaling the total from the week-ending May 29.

Northamptonshire's first Covid-19 victims were a 92-year-old at Northampton General Hospital and 45-year-old dad-of-two Craig Ruston who died at KGH, both on March 16.

The latest figures for infections in the county was 1,622 lat 9am yesterday (Monday) — a rise of six on the previous day. The rise of 50 new positive tests in a week is ten down on the previous seven-day period.

Tomorrow is the last day in Northamptonshire for a mobile Covid-19 testing unit which is offering appointments for those with coronavirus symptoms.

The site set up yesterday for a three-day stay at Silverstone.

Testing is strictly by appointment only — which can made online HERE — and is only for those with Covid-19 symptoms including a new, continuous cough; high temperature; loss of or change in sense of smell or taste.

Northamptonshire Health and Care Partnership shared a video showing what to expect when you turn up for a test.

Similar units have been in operation in Northampton, Kettering and Corby in the last week or so. Essential workers will be given priority for appointments.
