Official figures show where Covid-19 has scattered most of its pain and anguish across Northamptonshire.

They reveal 938 deaths among county residents linked directly to the virus in 9½ months from when it began in March last year until the end of December.

The Office for National Statistics divides the county into 89 areas of around 8,000 people each and assigns each victim to a locality according to their postcode.

Not surprisingly, Northampton has fared worst among the boroughs and districts with more than a third of the deaths, 339, coming from the town.

Kingsley Park and Racecourse, Cliftonville and Rushmere and Lodge Farm have been the areas hardest hit.

But rural areas have not been spared.

East Northamptonshire has seen 141 deaths, including 24 in villages around Ringstead, Woodford and Stanwick.

Kettering has seen 119, Wellingborough 88 and Corby 67.

Daventry district has seen 95 deaths and South Northants 89.

Just one of the 89 areas — around the South Northamptonshire villages of Silverstone, Syresham and Helmdon — has reported no fatalities.

An interactive ONS map allows anyone to check the latest data using postcodes for their own or any other area HERE.

Data shows the number of deaths by postcode since the pandemic began where Covid-19 was the underlying or main cause on the death certificate.

It includes those who lived in the county but may have been taken to hospitals elsewhere, such as Milton Keynes, Peterborough or Oxford.

A further 141 deaths involving coronavirus have so far been reported at Northampton General Hospital and Kettering General Hospital since the ONS data was collated on December 31.
