Five more Covid-19 victims died in Northampton General Hospital in a single day on Monday (June 15).

The latest grim news revealed by the NHS today follows last week's numbers which showed 13 lost their lives in the space of three days — five on Tuesday (June 9) and four each on Wednesday and Thursday.

Figures supplied by the NHS and released at 2pm daily relate to patients who have died in hospitals in England and have tested positive for Covid-19. All deaths are recorded against the date of death rather than the day the deaths were announced.

NGH twice saw the most deaths in one day among all 219 NHS Trusts in England last week.

Today's announcement also included another coronavirus-related death at NGH on Saturday. The six deaths at NGH confirmed today accounts for nearly eight per cent of the 77 victims listed by all of England's NHS Trusts in the latest 24-hour period when deaths were recorded, up to 5pm last night (Tuesday).

Front line staff at Northampton have now seen 277 Covid-19 patients die. Two more victims were also confirmed at Kettering General taking the the total there to 207 and 468 at the county's two main NHS hospitals.

Office for National Statistics have also identified 127 deaths related to Covid-19 in Northamptonshire's care homes up to last Friday (June 12), taking the total number of known deaths in the county to 613.

The latest figures for infections in the county rose to 1,632 at 9am yesterday (Tuesday) — up ten on the previous day.
