Guilsborough Academy has been filled with 'pride and delight' by their GCSE students despite the coronavirus pandemic as they received their results yesterday (Thursday, August 20).

Grades have been decided by teachers after exams were cancelled because of Covid-19 and the government's U-turn over its controversial statistical modelling.

However, some students will still be waiting for final grades as the awarding bodies for BTECs and Cambridge Nationals take more time to adjust their calculations.

Head of year 11 Mr Drouet said: “Our results are a vital part of our school – but they do not define us.

“Since these students first walked through our doors as year 7 children, they have grown to become impressive young people.

"They have worked hard, shown commitment and resilience in abundance and really found where their talents and passions lie.

“There are so many students who have worked so hard over the last five years to achieve their very best. They have grasped every opportunity that has come their way.

“They sum up the ethos of our school. Although we may not be physically together today, our school is still filled with pride and delight.”

Many students at the West Haddon Road school will be going onto further education after 87 per cent and 84 per cent achieved passes in English and maths respectively.

Principal Julie Swales said all of the staff are proud of the results which truly reflect students' talents, skills and efforts as individuals after a turbulent six months.

“Whilst many of our students achieved several grade 9s and 8s, which is amazing, we also had many others that made outstanding progress in a variety of subject areas," she added.

"We wish them all the best for the future and look forward to working with them in the sixth form to go on to continue their success."
