In a brave interview, the woman, who is now 37, revealed how one night out with friends went very wrong.

She was walking along Brook Street in Daventry when Anthony Carey, who was wearing a black mask, pulled up beside her and forced her into his car.

The victim, who contated the Daventry Express along with dozens of other women in light of recent assaults, said: "I didn't know what was happening.

'He took my life from me'. (Picture posed by model).

"He drove me to a farm track, dragged me out of the car and beat me so badly I lost consciousness."

When she woke up Carey then subjected her to a brutal sexual assault where he raped her anally. Her ordeal, which took place on November 4, 2018, lasted for two and a half hours.

Carey pleaded guilty to rape, kidnap and assault at Northampton Crown Court and received a 14 years and four months sentence.

"He's given me a life sentence," said the woman, who has three children.

"I thought I was going to die that night. Now, on some bad days, I want to die. I on medication and have counselling, but I don't think I'll ever come to terms with what happened to me."

She said she used to be an outgoing person before the rape.

"I don't leave the house now because I'm scared to go out," she said.

"I still have panic attacks and flashbacks."

"It's all so very hard to cope with. My attacker has messed up my head and my life."

The woman said she is working at being more independent for the sake of her children.

"I will always be looking over my shoulder," she said.

"I just hope nobody else ever has to go through what I went through."
