Cineworld has ringed Friday, July 10, as the date Northampton's film fans will be allowed back into its Sixfields cinema.

The multiplex chain says it is making a raft of changes to make the cinema “safe but enjoyable” after nearly four months closed.

Reopening still rests on the Government giving the go-ahead for cinemas to unlock their doors in England.

But Cineworld is lining up Disney's blockbuster Mulan and Christopher Nolan's Tenet to woo wary film buffs back through its doors.

Cineworld CEO Mooky Greidinger said: “We are thrilled to be back and encouraged by recent surveys that show that many people have missed going to the movie theatre.

“With a strong slate confirmed for the coming weeks, including among others Tenet, Mulan, A Quiet Place Part II, Wonder Women 1984, Black Widow, Bond, Soul, Top Gun Maverick and many more, the entire Cineworld team remains committed to being ‘the best place to watch a movie’.”

Cineworld has plans to queues and avoid crowds in lobbies and social distancing measures will be enforced across all areas of the cinema, including in auditoriums.

Booking systems are being updated to allow friends and family to sit together while ensuring a safe distance between customers from different households.

Film start and end times will be staggered to reduce the number of customers crossing paths with others going in or out of other screens. Additional cleaning time will be added between films.

Cineworld’s US branches will also reopen on 10 July — although if you are really keen, cinemas in the Czech Republic and Slovakia are opening on June 26, Poland and Bulgaria on 3 July 3.
