Fascinating tale of Woodbine Willie
The Rev Canon Andrew Studdert-Kennedy will talk and show a DVD about his grandfather Geoffrey Studdert Kennedy, better known as “Woodbine Willie, once curate at St Andrew’s Rugby, volunteer army chaplain on the Western Front of the First World War, winner of the Military Cross in 1917 and prominent peace campaigner after the conflict.
The event is St Andrew’s church on Thursday, June 4, at 7.30pm and is being held as part of the church’s First world War commemorations.

Hide AdAndrew is currently the rural dean and team rector of Marlborough, Wiltshire. He read Philosophy, Politics and Economics at university, worked in magazine publishing, the City and in Westminster in the 1980s before training for ordination. He was a Curate in Wimbledon Team Ministry from 1989 to 1993 and Vicar of St Oswald’s, Norbury, from 1994 to 2002.
