Musical is far too silly but generates plenty of laughs

Have your say

What do you get if you put together King Arthur, strange French men, two coconut halves and a holy hand grenade? It can only be Spamalot - the musical.

Lovingly ripped off from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, this musical retells the story of the film and is packed full of classic Python references.

Right from the start there is a routine based around the fish slapping sketch to the roundly loved Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.

There is a sheer infectious joy to be had when this show is performed and it extends to the actors. Many can be seen laughing at some of the silliness going on around. However rather than a sign of unprofessionalism, it is more a sign of the joy that everyone is clearly getting from this show.

This show takes the slick choreography and polished songs and gives it a Pythonesque twist. Parodying the musical genre making the songs even more ridiculous and the acting entertainingly preposterous. If you’re feeling in the dumps, don’t be silly chumps, and if you go along to this musical, you will be looking on the bright side of life. Spamalot can be seen until Saturday.
