Daventry’s Rotary club raised £11,940 for charity on its 50th annual Christmas collection thanks to the generosity of residents.

Rotary club volunteers – along with supporters including representatives from local community groups, sports teams and a Scout associations – braved chilly conditions throughout December to accompany Santa on his annual tour of the district to the delight of many children.

Robert Snedker, spokesman for Danetre Rotary Club, said: “Our generous community donated almost £12,000, which will all be used to help worthy causes in your local area. In fact, lots of Santa’s little helpers were members of local organisations and they have all been given their fair share of your generous donations.

“The 2014 collection has been a record year, again.

“We’d like to thank all the generous givers and the helpers of Daventry for their money and time. We really couldn’t do it without you.”

The team from the Rotary club met for a Christmas dinner at The Windmill in Badby, where MP and honorary Rotarian Chris Heaton-Harris presented cheques to groups involved
in the sleigh collection, including Ashby Fields Scout Group.
