TWO days of free sport and cultural activities are being held this weekend to mark the countdown to the London Olympics.
The sporting and cultural activities at the leisure centre will be held from 10am to 8pm on Saturday and include swimming, kayaking, squash, a climbing wall, bouncy castle, dance classes, archery, gift box and lantern making.
A photography competition and exhibition, sponsored by Daventry Town Council and judged by the mayor, is also being held from 10am to 5pm, and there will be prizes for each theme winner.
Althorp House is hosting a wide range of free activities from 11am to 8pm on Sunday, including street performers, tennis, live music performances, giant chess and games, soccer skills, rugby, cricket and athletics.
Wenlock (pictured), one of the official London 2012 Olympic mascots, will also be present on the day.
At the end of both days there will be free cinema screenings.
On Saturday, the film Rango, starring Johnny Depp, will be shown from 6pm in the Saxon Suite at Daventry Leisure Centre. On
Sunday it will be Gnomeo and Juliet at 6pm on the giant screen in the Deer Park at Althorp.
There is no need to book for any of these events.
Cllr Alan Hills said: “Last year’s open weekend was a great success but this year’s activities promise to be even better, with a terrific range of free cultural and sporting activities for all ages.
“I’m looking forward to it with great anticipation and I hope as many people as possible take advantage of this opportunity and have a brilliant time.”

The weekend has been organised by DDC with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
