A series of events raised hundreds of pounds for a school in Daventry.

A Christmas Extravaganza and raffleshave been held at the Abbey Academy and organised by the Friends of the school, raising a total of £854.

The fundraising is part of a projectworking towards the building of a reading area and purchasing new books for the pupils to enjoy.

Helen Brown from the Friends of Abbey Academy said: “We think it was important for the children to have the improved area for reading.

“It is something that all of us parents feel very passionate about and glad that we could contribute towards.”

She also took the time to thank people in the area who were able to help with the fundraising initiatives launched by the group.

Mrs Brown said: “Events such as these would not be achievable without the support of the local community.

“At this time of year it is important to be thankful of the generosity of the parents who donated food, wines and toiletries for the Hampers.

“We would also like to thank the children for selling the tickets and to the local company’s who donated some absolutely fantastic raffle prizes.”

The school was also grateful to all of the help that was given by those who donated prizes and helped out.

She added: “Of the 28 companies who donated we would like to thank all who were able to make the event the great success it was! Thank you letters have gone out to all of them.

“The main prize donators to the school raffle were Everyone Active, Hankook Tyres, Daventry Hotel, The Olde Coach House at Ashby St Ledgers, Jewel on the Square, Knightley’s Boutique and Clarks Shoes.”
