Fiori Musicali based in Preston Capes are to perform at All Saints Church in Flore on Saturday May 7.

They have been invited to the church at the initiative of the residents of Flore who are keen to raise funds for their church following the theft of metal from the church roof.

Fiori’s programme features one of their favourite performers, soprano Judit Felszeghy, who will be performing in full baroque costume.

She has appeared in festivals across Europe, and she’s also sung with Fiori Musicali in some of the country’s finest stately homes, including Boughton House, and Althorp. Born in Hungary.

Judit Felszeghy is rapidly establishing herself here in the UK as a skilled and captivating performer of baroque repertoire.

Theming the programme on the baroque musical garden was the brain child of the organisers at Flore.

The village of Flore in fact most probably derives its name from the beautiful fields of flowers (or flora) that the Romans found there, just off the old Roman road of Watling Street).

The name Fiori Musicali translates as ‘musical flowers’.

Dr Penelope Rapson, who founded Fiori said: “We are greatly looking forward to this concert.

“It’s an opportunity to showcase some really outstanding performers and the music we’ll be performing is ideally suited to Flore’s theme of the ‘Enchanted Musical Garden’.

“There’s plenty of Handel in the programme, including extracts from his famous Water Music in a version discovered in Oxford.

“Handel was tremendously popular with the public when he came to England in the early 18th century – he effectively became an adopted Englishman.

“And his music then as now always attracted the crowds.”

In Fiori’s team will be charismatic baroque violinist Kelly McCusker, playing brilliant music by Vivaldi – the so-called ‘red priest of Venice’, as well as Handel and Telemann.

Fiori Musicali are one of the UK’s principal providers of classical and early music concerts outside London.

They have been playing concerts to thousands of music lovers each year performing concerts across the local area..
